Yoga is an ideal basis for a holistic fitness practice since it uses physical movement, controlled breathing and meditation to improve mental and emotional health. While many come to it primarily for physical reasons, those who deepen their practice find new doors opening to the mental and spiritual aspects as well.
Vinyasa is a creative and dynamic style of yoga which combines breath and movement through a steady and vigorous sequence of poses. The class features sequences of sun salutations, standing and seated postures, balances, back extensor work and inversions. Vinaysa yoga builds internal heat, endurance, flexibility, strength and concentration. This style is often called flow yoga, because of the smooth way the poses run together like a dance. The term vinyasa is derived from nyasa, meaning “to place,” and vi, meaning “in a special way.” This practice provides a guidance in creativity and freedom making it one of the most attractive forms of yoga today.
